An Indoor Fort for the Kids
Browsing my Google Reader this morning a quick and fun activity was posted in one of the websites I follow. The web site if you are interested is http://kids-indoor-activities.suite101.com and the activity was building an indoor fort. I remember building forts when I was a kid both indoors and out as well as the fun involved.
It only takes a couple of seconds to grab a couple sheets from the linen closet and throw something up. For the half second it takes to make it happen and the time it occupies the kids I think it is worth hearing my wife complain about the dog hair that will surely be all over them when the fun is over. Luckily she isn’t home right now to stop us from raiding the linen closet.
As soon as I proposed the idea to my kids my five year old was all over it. With just two sheets strung from the coffee table to the couch the fun began. Once the main tent was up my two year old started to understand what we were up to and he grabbed his b-b (blanket) to contribute to the structure. My five year old also came up with ways to build the fort.
The limits are only as broad as your child’s imagination. I encourage you to grab a sheet or two and start them off on a journey in their imaginations. If you also want to be a part of the fun offer to have a camp out in your living room. Activities like these are not only free, but they leave lasting memories in your child’s minds.

Over Christmas, Teresa and I spent an hour or so under a blanket fort with my nephew. It is amazing how something so simple is so enthralling.
