Daddy Daughter Dates

My daughter and I have been doing something that I hope other dads share with their daughters. Once every couple of weeks my daughter and I go to Denny’s or Ihop for some one on one time. It might seem a little strange right now since she is only five to need alone time, but my expectation is that continuing this tradition will matter more as she grows up. We never let a month slip away without going out together at least once.

I have found that most places like Denny’s and Ihop have certain days of the week where kids eat free. Sometimes I happen to land upon one of those days when we go out and that is how I found out. You can click on the links above to find restaurants in your area as well as promotions. Honestly though, the cost of the dinner is minimal when compared to the return you will get through building a stronger relationship with your daughter.

I know my daughter is only five and there are a lot of changes she will go through, but making a point of getting together at least once a month hopefully allows me a chance to be a part of those changes. I dread the day when our dates turn into her talking about boys since I am obviously one myself and I know what value girls hold for guys before our late twenties. She’ll probably have her little heart broken more than once and I’m sure I’ll want to kill the boy that breaks it first. As much as it might bother me to hear some of the challenges she will face as she grows up I want her to feel like she can tell me anything. I am hoping these daddy daughter dates as she calls them will keep the line of communication open between us as we both grow up.
